Direction

The Austrian director studied music theatre directing at the Hanns Eisler Academy of Music in Berlin and assisted Peter Konwitschny, Tatjana Gürbaca, Vera Nemirova, Tilman Knabe and Lorenzo Fioroni, among others. He was a permanent assistant director at the Staatstheater Mainz for two seasons. His productions have taken him to the Berlin State Opera, the Haus der Berliner Festspiele, the Munich Biennale, the Basel Theatre, the Graz Opera, the Next Liberty Theatre Graz, the Philharmonie Berlin, the HAU2, the Leipzig Opera, as well as to various festivals, such as the Dramatists Festival at the Schauspielhaus Graz and the Steirischer Herbst.

In 2018, he was commissioned by the Governing Mayor of Berlin to design the official ceremony for the Day of German Unity of the Federal Republic of Germany as a brilliant celebration of diversity, broadcast live on ARD. His work is characterised by lived inclusion and the staging of amateur actors, choirs and collectives, such as the \”Originale\” productions at the Berlin State Opera or the village operas \”Die Nacht von Allerheiligen\” and \”Regina\”, for which he received the Styrian State Culture Prize in 2022. He is a research fellow of the Berlin Senate and the Fonds Darstellende Künste. In the 2023/2024 season, he will stage the first inclusive version of \”Beggar\'s Opera\” at Oper Graz. With the children\'s opera house at the Staatsoper Berlin, he is devoting himself to the young Mozart in \”Einfach Mozart\”.
