Manos Tsangaris

Manos Tsangaris (b. 1956) is a composer, percussionist, and installation artist. He’s considered to be one of the most significant representatives of new music theater. Since the 1970s he has been exploring the conditions of performance as an essential object of composition and conducting research in the field of scenic anthropology.
Since 2009, Tsangaris has been Professor of Composition at the Hochschule für Musik Carl Maria von Weber Dresden and a member of the Akademie der Künste Berlin (Director of the Music Section from 2012 to 2021). He was Artist In Residence at the Zurich University of the Arts (2012/13) and Visiting Professor at the Norwegian Academy of Music Oslo (2017/18) as well as at numerous other universities. Tsangaris has been one of the artistic directors of the Munich Biennale, festival of new music theater, along with Daniel Ott, since 2016.
